[China Digital Audiovisual Network News] With the further explosion of 4K equipment in the audiovisual field, film and television manufacturers have also begun to focus on the production of 4K resources. Following the launch of LeTV's first 4K movie blockbuster, Sohu Video has recently made efforts in the upstream of the video website production industry chain, launching "China's first 4K Internet drama"-"Hurry That Year". Zhang Chaoyang, chairman and CEO of Sohu's board of directors, said that 4k technology + TV station-level drama + online self-made model can be described as an epoch-making measure in the field of video self-made and even in the field of Chinese film and television dramas. At the same time, Zhang Chaoyang revealed to reporters that the company will cooperate with hardware manufacturers in content and software, but will not launch hardware products at present.
Create 4K TV-level homemade dramas
When major video sites have spent huge sums of money to buy copyrights, self-control has become a breakthrough for them to seek more space. Zhang Chaoyang previously stated that Sohu Video will make unprecedented investment in the first year of self-made, and the investment in self-made will be doubled in 2013; the traffic output of self-made content will be 4 times last year; self-made will surpass variety shows to become Sohu video layout The category that is second only to TV series will also be Sohu Video's first profitable content product line.
Many self-produced dramas such as "Men's Silk Man" and "Morning Needles" produced by Sohu Video have achieved good results. Among them, "Men's Silk Man" has surpassed many satellite TV dramas with a total broadcast volume of more than 1.6 billion.
However, in Zhang Chaoyang's view, most of the online self-made dramas are based on melodrama and online short dramas. In the future, it is necessary to make breakthroughs in investment, lineup, quality, broadcasting, revenue, influence, and mode to improve the quality of content. Opportunity to achieve large-scale heavy volume, realizing strong ratings.
Zhang Chaoyang said that "The Hurry That Year" not only adopted 4K shooting technology for the first time, challenged the Chinese TV industry with new technology, but also the first TV-level network-made long-running drama, challenging traditional TV with a new model.
"Hurried That Year" is adapted from Jiuye Ani's best-selling novel of the same name, and is known as the post-80s campus pure love classic with a large number of fans. The play will be aired on August 4th, adopting the current weekly broadcast mode, a total of sixteen episodes, each 45 minutes.
No hardware for now
At present, although 4K technology has become one of the biggest selling points of TV at present, the lack of content has become a major obstacle to its popularity. Manufacturers' 4K TVs have grown at a rapid rate, but 4K technology has few and few applications in the domestic film and television industry. It is understood that Sohu Video will cooperate with Hisense, Skyworth, TCL, Lenovo, Xiaomi, and smart TV set-top box makers such as Jike, Kaiboer, and Picturesque in the promotion of "The Year in a Hurry". All supermarkets and online channels will be fully displayed. In terms of operators and licensees, Sohu is currently actively promoting close cooperation in various ways.
Many video websites have launched smart TVs. In response, Zhang Chaoyang revealed: "Sohu Video currently does not make hardware, but can cooperate with all hardware manufacturers in terms of content and software, so as to be displayed on as many OTT screens as possible."
Previously, Zhang Chaoyang also said that because smart TV involves multiple links such as operating platforms, manufacturers, and operators, and because piracy problems still exist, the overall industry is not in a good shape, so Sohu Video is doing content, hardware, or Software, no conclusion for the time being.
